The upcoming events for the Rochester Council on Aging are as follows. For more information, to reserve a spot, or to request a ride, call 508-763-8723.
Volunteers Needed – To prepare a soup and sandwich lunch one Monday afternoon a month, and to help in the breakfast program one morning a week in several capacities. To volunteer, call 508-763-8723.
Mike & Ann’s Special Luncheon – The Council on Aging’s volunteer gourmet chefs, Mike and Ann Cambra and team, will prepare a meal for our seniors on Monday, Feb. 27 at 12:00 p.m. Anyone is welcome to come, but must sign up in advance so that we prepare enough food for everyone, as it fills up fast. Our suggested, anonymous donation for the meal is $4 per person. Call the COA if you need a ride.
Second Annual “Year of Remembrance Program” – This Year of Remembrance Program, which will be held on Friday, Feb. 10 at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Center, will be an opportunity for us to reflect on those who have passed on in the previous year, and to share our reflections, our memories, and our stories about these individuals with each other. Anyone is welcome to attend. This is a free program but we do ask that you sign up in advance to allow set up and prepare refreshments for all.
How the Mass Senior Circuit Breaker can help pay you – Ann Cambra will give a presentation on the Circuit Breaker and will tell you how you can qualify and how you can apply. Find out if you are eligible Monday, Feb. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Senior Center. Anyone is welcome to attend. Most Basic Eligibility Criteria – Over 65, must rent or own home that is your principle home, property cannot be assessed over $693,000, make less than $57,000 income single or $84,000 as couple, real estate taxes must be greater than 10 percent of total income, rental property must be greater than 25 percent of your total income.

Monthly Programs at the Rochester Senior Center:
The Pampered Chef – Linda Medeiros returns on Jan. 9 and Feb.6 at 11:30 a.m. to share her cooking demonstration. Stay for lunch at noon once the demonstration is over and sample the results. You don’t have to be present for the demo to enjoy the lunch. A suggested donation of $4 per person is suggested. Anyone is welcome to attend. Please call us in advance to sign up and for a ride.
Monday Soup & Sandwich Lunch – Join us for lunch on Mondays at noon for a meal of soup and sandwich. A different soup and sandwich will be offered each week. Dessert and beverage is also included. Anyone is welcome but call us in advance to let us know you are coming so we can prepare enough. There is a suggested donation of $4.
Congregate Lunches – Hot meals for seniors on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. at the Senior Center. Voluntary donation of $2 per meal. Call the Senior Center at least one day in advance to reserve your meal operated by Coastline.
Monthly Senior Book Club – The book club will meet at the Senior Center on Jan. 17 and Feb. 21 at 10:15 a.m.. Anyone is welcome to attend. Rochester’s library director will facilitate the group. The January book is “The Invention of Wings” by Sue Monk Kidd and the February Book is “Letters from Skye” by Jessica Brockmole. Call Gail Roberts directly at Plumb Library if you have any questions about the group or reading list.
Blood Pressure Clinic – The weekly blood pressure clinic is held on Wednesdays from 10-12 p.m. at the Senior Center by the Town’s Health Nurse, Connie Dolan. Anyone is welcome to come to get their blood pressure checked. Call for a ride in.
Manicures Anyone?- Come for a free manicure on Jan. 17 and Feb. 21 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Old Colony Cosmetology students will come provide this free service. No reservations needed.
Fitness Room Notice – The Fitness Room Program is now open five days a week for four hours each day. The schedule is as follows: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 8-12 p.m., Tuesday 12-4 p.m. The fitness room is now monitored by a senior aid from Coastline Elderly Services. There is a monthly membership fee of $10 per person, due on the first of each month. Members may use the Fitness Room as many times as they wish. Anyone of any age is welcome to be a member.

Ye Olde Breakfast Shoppe – Open Mondays-Fridays, 7-9 a.m., sponsored by the Friends of the Rochester Senior Center and the Rochester Lions Club. Anyone of any age & any town is welcome. Breakfast consists of a varied menu, weekly specials and reasonable prices. Also, a bottomless cup of coffee. Closed weekends, holidays and snow days. New Release DVD Movies — Fridays at 1:30 p.m. Anyone is welcome to attend this free event. Call by Wednesday to find out what movie will be playing that Friday. Movies are received through Netflix.
