Rochester Council on Aging raises funds for addition

Jan 3, 2013

The Rochester Council on Aging’s efforts to construct an addition to the Senior Center for a Senior Supportive Day Program are paying off.

To date, the Council and the Friends of the Rochester Council on Aging have raised nearly $100,000 for the project, which is estimated to cost $245,000.

The money was raised through several programs including the Council’s weekly “Ye Olde Breakfast Shoppe,” dinners, and even a Psychic Fair in October.

The next event will be a chicken pot pie dinner on January 5 at the Senior Center. Council Director Sharon Lally said there is also a Texas Hold’em tournament scheduled for March.

Once built, the Senior Supportive Day Program would provide additional activities, food, and transportation services for local senior citizens.

The program, which could service 15 seniors a day, would be housed in the addition to the Senior Center on Dexter Lane.

“We’re almost halfway there,” Lally said.

Although they still have a way to go, Lally said she is aiming to have all of the necessary funds gathered by spring. Once the money is secured, Lally said the project can go before the town officials for approval and then out to bid for a contractor.
