Rochester Golf Course plans for solar array

ROCHESTER Rochester Golf Club may one day use its green to get profits from golfers and the roof of its building to get profit from Trinity Solar Inc.

Paul Eaton, a representative with the New Jersey-based solar company appeared before the Planning Board for an informal discussion at a May 12 virtual meeting, to figure out what his company would have to do to put 25 solar panels on the roof at Rochester Golf Club.

The board’s informal answer was: not as much as some other projects go through.

Board members said the project would likely not need a peer review, but would need an application because it is on a scenic highway, even though the panels will not be visible from the road, according to the plan.

“The extent of the review would be to verify with the building department that this satisfies their requirement,” per the building code, Town Counsel Blair Bailey said.

He called the move, “a formality, but something we really can’t waive,”

The board will, however, be able to waive a long list of other requirements, as it did for Zero Waste and Sperry Sails.
