Harbor Days are just around the corner
MATTAPOISETT — Get ready for lobster, live music and leisure at this year’s Harbor Days, taking place on Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20 at Shipyard Park in Mattapoisett.
Approximately 100 vendor booths will be present at this year’s fest, including Bittersweet Herb Farm, Mattapoisett Bird Works, Mattapoisett Land Trust, Dianne’s Art Farm and Chrissy Ann Ceramics.
Additionally, attendees can pay $30 for access to Lobster Fest on Saturday and $7 to purchase strawberry shortcakes at the event. There will also be a fish fry on Friday night and pancake breakfast on Sunday.
A silent auction will be hosted at the event on Saturday and features items such as a $200 gift card for the medical spa Heavenly Medical Aesthetics and a private appetizer party for 10 people from Mattapoisett Chef Colby Rottler valued at $700.
Funds raised throughout the weekend will benefit several causes, including the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, which works toward the prevention and cure of eye-related diseases, scholarships given by the Mattapoisett Lions Club and providing assistance to South Coast residents who need school lunches, clothes and groceries.
Free eye exams will also be offered prior to the festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 at Shipyard Park.
“My focus is always to give back to the community,” said Robert Haley, president of the Mattapoisett Lions Club.
Throughout the weekend, musicians and bands will perform in the gazebo at Shipyard Park, including Indigo Shore and Kelly Zucco, Butch McCarthy and Eric Beau. The full event schedule can be found online at mattapoisettlionsclub.org.
The club has organized several events leading up to the festival weekend, including its First Annual Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, July 12 starting at 11 a.m. and a free yoga session at the Studio on Sunday, July 13 at 2 p.m. Further details can be found online at mattapoisettlionsclub.com.
Hayley emphasized that Harbor Days is considered an “institution” in the town of Mattapoisett, stating that “It’s one of those things that happens during the summer that people look forward to because it’s been around [over] 40 years.
