Rochester to introduce online payments
Rochester’s town administrator is looking into bringing the town's tax payment system into the digital age.
At the Selectmen meeting on Monday, Town Administrator Mike McCue said he will have conversations next week with a bank to explore setting up an online portal where citizens can make tax payments.
Town residents would be able to access the payment system through a link on both the town's main webpage and the tax collector page. Residents would be charged $1 per transaction.
"It's not excessive; it's equivalent to what residents pay [for online payment systems] in other towns," he said.
McCue said this online system likely will be rolled out in the next month or two.
If everything goes well, he said the system could be used for other types of payments.
"This will be a foot in the door in terms of finding other ways to arrange for online payments for charges citizens need to pay for," McCue said.
