Rochester police arrest man for alleged drunk driving, drug possession

Rochester police arrested an 18-year-old Acushnet man charged with drunk driving, drug possession and drug distribution early Sunday morning.

At 1:45 a.m., officer Dylan Hicks observed a car speeding on North Avenue. According to police, the driver crossed the centerline on three occasions and failed to dim his high beams.

The man, Matthew Dubois of Kimberly Way, Acushnet, was stopped and the officer detected the smell of alcohol on him, according to a press release issued by the Rochester Police Department on Monday.

Dubois allegedly showed signs of impairment and failed sobriety tests.

Officer Nathan Valente searched Dubois’ car before it was towed and found more than $1,000 in cash, more than one ounce of marijuana, hash butane oil, digital scales, plastic bags, a bong and a butane torch. Police also found a bottle of vodka and a switchblade knife.

Dubois was charged with speeding, operating under the influence of liquor, having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, failing to stay in marked lanes, possession of a class D substance, distribution of a class D substance, possession of alcohol while under 21, possession of a dangerous weapon, negligent operation of a vehicle and failure to dim headlights.

Dubois was released on personal recognizance and scheduled for arraignment in Wareham District Court on Monday.
