Rochester Selectmen approve contractor for Town Hall repairs
With Town Meeting approval secured, Rochester officials are moving forward with plans to repair the exterior of the Town Hall.
On Monday night, the Selectmen approved a bid of $86,000 from the Wareham-based SEMASS Construction to complete a series of repairs.
“They are going to replace the roof, the side, windows, and trim,” said Town Administrator Richard LaCamera.
In September, LaCamera discussed the much-needed repairs for the building.
“The building is deteriorating,” he said. “The roof has significant leakage. The paint is peeling off outside of the building. If we don’t do anything we are going to lose the building. We’ve spent the last five or six years putting together a capital plan, but because of the economic situation, we’ve only been able to address certain things."
Last month, Special Town Meeting approved $897,000 to be used for the purpose of renovating the Town Hall as well as several other town buildings and for purchasing equipment.
With a contractor approved for the project, town officials will next work on scheduling a start date for the repairs.
