Rochester Selectmen back quorum changes

Dec 24, 2013

Since the town’s population has increased, the number of people needed to fill a quorum at Annual Town Meeting should follow suit, said Moderator Woody Hartley.

The current quorum for Annual Town Meeting is 75 people. Without that many registered voters in attendance the meeting can not be held.

Hartley told Selectmen at their Monday night meeting that number should be increased to 100 people.

He also asked Selectmen to remove a requirement that calls for a 15 person quorum to approve money transfers less than $25,000 at Special Town Meetings.

Selectmen approved the measure. Town Counsel will draft language for a bylaw to be voted on at Town Meeting.
