Rochester Selectmen hear capital planning requests
ROCHESTER — The Capital Planning Committee made seven recommendations for projects to fund at the town’s next Town Meeting.
Six of those projects would be funded with an $100,000 allocation that was given to the committee at the last Town Meeting.
They include the final phase of technology upgrades for Rochester Memorial School ($26,776), an air compressor replacement for the school’s HVAC unit ($16,800), additional waterproofing of the Town Hall basement ($7,560), a portable message board for the town ($16,516), the replacement of a walk in freezer for the Council on Aging ($20,475), and an air handler for the Council on Aging ($9,315).
In addition, a separate article would recommend funding the number one request from the highway department, which would total $99,456.
The committee prioritized this request separately because they felt the highway department has the largest needs and some equipment that really needs to be turned over. Committee members recognized that the department was stellar at maximizing the length of their equipment.
Selectman Paul Ciaburri asked what the Rochester Memorial technology project would entail.
The response was that it would enhance security, upgrade access points and provide another radio antenna.
Selectman Woody Hartley commented that the basement waterproofing last year was “a huge success,” and gave the town “an entire other meeting room.”
Facilities Director Andrew Daniel said he thought the message board “would be used non stop by every department.
Hartley also commented that the Community Preservation Committee, which is only in its second year, has “been a great addition to have this in front of us and see what our needs are and have an independent group analyzing this.”
