Rochester Senior Center approved to reopen on a limited basis

ROCHESTER — After months of keeping the building closed, the Senior Center will reopen to no more than 15 participants, staff and volunteers in its coffee and conversation program when the weather does not allow for outdoor gatherings.

Senior Center Director Cheryl Randall-Mach appeared before Selectmen to make the request on Aug. 3.  

“The numbers [for the program] have been low. I think we should give it a try and see,” she said. 

She added that she often has to remind people not to get too close to each other because they miss each other. But holding occasional gatherings in the event room that would offer participants plenty of room to spread out.  

Selectmen approved her request to open the Senior Center, given that she complies with all health and safety regulations. 

Randall Mach hopes she won’t have to bring the program indoors often, but “with this hot weather it would be better if they would be able to come inside for a bit to have their coffee before leaving,” she said, adding that“it’s a good backup option
