Oct 26, 2019

ROCHESTER — The Senior Center flu clinic scheduled for Oct. 22 was cancelled because the shipment of vaccines was delayed in getting to the Senior Center. The Rochester Senior Center and the Rochester Health Department will host a morning Adult Flu Clinic at the Senior Center on Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Participants should bring an insurance card, and wear a short-sleeved shirt.

Conversational French at the Rochester Senior Center will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 1, Nov. 8, and Nov. 15. There is no fee or reservation needed to join.

Outreach worker Lorraine Thompson will prepare a special luncheon of chicken salad sandwiches and homemade soup on Nov. 4 at noon. Advanced reservations are needed to attend the lunch and a donation of $5 is suggested.

The Senior Center will hold a Veteran’s Supper on Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. The Council on Aging will thank and honor all veterans, but will particularly honor Gordon Helme, a member of the Senior Center Board of Directors who has also served as the Veterans Agent and Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Elders volunteer. Helme served in the Navy until 1971.

The supper is for Rochester Veterans and their families. The menu will include ham, beans, coleslaw and a cake for Gordon. The Senior Center has mailed invitations to all of the Veterans on their list. Rochester Veterans who did not receive an invitation should contact the Rochester Senior Center so that they can be added to the list.

On Thursday, Nov. 7, Attorney Bealieu will be available after 3 p.m. to meet with seniors regarding legal matters. There is no cost for an appointment. Appointments can be made by contacting the Rochester Senior Center.

The PACE Fuel Assistance Program helps eligible residents pay for heating costs. This includes gas, oil, wood, propane, pellets, coal or electric heat. A PACE representative will be at the Rochester Senior Center on Nov. 7, 14 and 21 from 1 to 2 p.m. Call the Senior Center to make an appointment with the representative, and bring a photo ID, proof of income for at least 30 days, copies of social security cards for all household members, proof of housing costs and a primary heating bill.
