To accommodate more veterans in need of financial assistance, voters at Special Town Meeting added $30,000 to the town budget.

Selectmen requested the funds Monday night on behalf of Veteran’s Agent Barry Denham who also serves as Mattapoisett’s agent.

Finance Committee Chair Kris Stoltenberg said veterans are entitled to support from the town. The state will reimburse the town 75 percent of the funds next year.

“This is for any kind of financial assistance that they may need to help them get through,” Stoltenberg said. “That’s really where the thirty thousand dollars will be spent.”

Voters unanimously approved the request.
