Rochester's Country Fair will be rockin' organizers say
At this year’s Rochester Country Fair stage lights will shine on two well-known pop music acts. On Friday, Aug. 15, Rochester’s own Jennel Garcia will perform from 5 to 6 p.m. The next night, John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band take the stage at 7 p.m.
At Monday’s Selectmen meeting, the fair’s Co-Chair Julia Koczera provided the board with a progress report for this year’s event, now in its 15th year.
“Everyone’s excited,” Koczera said, adding that the four-day fair generally draws more than 5,000 people. “It gives something for people in town to do without having to drive too far.”
She also asked Selectmen’s approval to appoint the fair’s board of directors, staff and volunteers, which they did. Board members praised the fair organizers’ efforts.
“It looks like you’ve got another great year lined up for us,” said Selectman Naida Parker.
“This gets bigger and better every year,” Chair Brad Morse added.
Koczera said the musical acts should be a big draw. When possible, Garcia has performed at local events, including a Little League opening day and a Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
Garcia gained attention while a contestant on Fox’s singing competition, “The X Factor.” Recently, she released the single “Hate to Love You,” now available on iTunes.
“We booked her almost last minute. We are very excited to have her there,” Koczera said. “That’s a big, positive draw for the fair.”
Saturday’s night act is best known for the 1980 Billboard top ten hit “On the Dark Side.” Formed in Rhode Island in 1972, the group has been touring and playing ever since.
In addition to the music, familiar events such as a tractor pull, pie eating contest and more are scheduled.
