Science fair excites YMCA preschool students
At the Mattapoisett YMCA on Thursday, kids walked on eggs, made “volcanoes,” and performed other experiments, all in the name of science.
Each month, the YMCA holds an after school program for preschool students. Thursday was the first time that a science-themed event was held, said Director Tricia Weaver.
The experiments were kid friendly and can be easily duplicated at home. Of course, parents may not want their children walking on eggs inside the kitchen. For that experiment, the eggs were left in cartons and each child had a hand in walking on top of them barefoot.
To make volcanoes they mixed vinegar and baking soda (with Weaver’s help) in muffin tins to create a fizzy, bubbly reaction.
