Science, pottery lectures to be held at Tabor Academy
Tabor Academy has two upcoming events that are open to the public.
Science@Work
On Dec. 12 at 6:30 p.m, Tabor’s Science@Work Lecture Series continues with a talk by Mark Rasmussen, president of the Buzzards Bay Coalition. Prior to joining the Coalition, Rasmussen worked as a guest student at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution where he assisted in the assessment of nutrient loading impacts to coastal ecosystems and as a regional planner for the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management’s Buzzards Bay National Estuary Program.
In 2013, he became an associate at the Stockholm International Water Institute to explore government and civil society approaches to the restoration of the Baltic Sea.
Rasmussen will discuss trends in the health of Buzzards Bay over the past 30 year, particularly data released recently as part of the Coalition’s 2015 State of the Bay Report.
This event is free and open to the public. It will be at 6:30 p.m. in Tabor Academy’s Lyndon South Auditorium in the Stroud Academic Center at 232 Front St.
Ceramic artist to speak
Art potter and educator Maureen Mills will be Tabor Academy’s 2016 Visiting Fellow in Ceramics and will speak on her work in the school’s ceramic studio on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 6:30 p.m.
Mills has been an active studio potter in New England since the 1980s, and she has taught ceramics at the New Hampshire Institute of Art since 2001.
At Tabor, Mills will conduct practical demonstrations in the ceramic studio during her three-day visit, Dec. 12-14. Through workshops, students will be introduced to her skillful work with the potter’s wheel as she produces large vases, covered jars and teapots.
