Second iteration of Rochester Senior Center block party approaching
ROCHESTER — Meet a cow, play with massive bubbles and line dance — all at the Rochester Senior Center, where a block party to open the summer is approaching fast.
The Rochester community block party, organized by the Friends of the Rochester Senior Center and local public safety group TRIAD, is Friday, June 21 from 2 to 7 p.m. at 67 Dexter Lane.
In 2023, the function in its first year got a “great response,” a turnout of about 400 people, according to Eric Poulin, executive director of the Rochester Council on Aging.
In its second year, the gathering will again have a myriad of attractions like the aforementioned bubble maker and petting zoo.
There will also be inflatable games for kids, fire trucks on site as well as line dancing and Zumba exercise demonstrations. Block party-goers can expect a cookout with burgers, hot dogs and ice cream too. A local DJ will set the soundtrack all the while.
“It’s going to be a great day for the community,” Poulin said.
In addition to the Rochester Council on Aging and Friends of the Rochester Senior Center, the block party is sponsored by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and Sheriff’s Office.
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office will present a K-9 demonstration.
The community party will also have an information fair component of tables for various Rochester and area non-profit organizations.
With activities for both children and adults, the block party at the Rochester Senior Center is “intergenerational,” Poulin said.
