Patriotic parade fills streets of Marion
MARION — As lawn chairs were set and community members filled the sidewalks of Marion donned in their best red, white and blue outfits, patriotism could be seen marching down the Main Street in the annual Marion Independence Day Parade
Dozens of participants shouted toward the crowd with words of patriotism as candy and beads were given to eager attendees.
Vanessa Harvey and her two children 7-year-old Rosalie and 9-year-old Beckham are from Marion and said that they were glad to be celebrating America's birthday at home this year.
"Usually we're traveling on the Fourth so this is exciting that we're actually here," Vanessa said.
Rosalie said that she liked to see the veterans and to get candy, but wasn't a big fan of the fire trucks and other big vehicles.
"They're too loud," she said.
But, she said she did hope to see dogs and was looking forward to the rest of the holiday.
"I like that I get to spend it with my family and friends," Rosalie said.
Select board members, the Wareham Minute Men, car clubs and more took part in stopping the usual Marion traffic flow. With Buzzards Bay glittering in the background, the beginning of the Fourth of July was celebrated with families from all over.
Lisa and her 10-year-old daughter Anna, from Marshfield, were visiting family and decided to stop and watch the festivities. Anna said she liked the candy and the number of entrants in the parade.
"It's fun to see everyone here," Anna said.
Anna said her favorite part about the holiday were the fireworks and that she planned to spend the time before then at the beach.
Best in Parade winner went to the Friends of Jack with their Candyland themed float.
