Selectman files disclosure letter
Selectman and Recreation Director Jody Dickerson filed a disclosure letter in response to conflict-of-interest concerns regarding his dual role.
At a previous meeting, resident Tom Magauran asked the board if Dickerson violated a state ethics law that prohibits selectmen from receiving compensation from more than one office or agency within a town.
On Tuesday, Town Administrator Paul Dawson said the law designates Selectmen in towns with fewer than 10,000 people as “special municipal employees.”
The exception allows Dickerson to maintain the two contracts, as a board member and director, with the town, Dawson said.
When Dickerson was first elected Dawson said he attempted to file a disclosure letter. However, the form may have been incorrectly filled out.
“There was certainly an intent to file,” Dawson said.
For fiscal year 2014, voters at Town Meeting approved a budget that gives Selectmen an annual salary of $4,902. Last fiscal year, Dickerson was paid $29,100 as recreation director.
