Seth Mendell was appointed Town Historian by the Mattapoisett Selectmen Tuesday night. Mendell had been unanimously recommended by the Mattapoisett Historical Commission and the Selectmen spent little time deliberating the appointment.

Mendell is the President of the Mattpoisett Historical Society and his family has been steeped in Mattapoisett life since the town's founding.

In other town business:

The Selectmen appointed Cathy Barrows and Melodye Pacheco as at-large members to the Tax Rate Relief Committee.

The Selectmen voted to approve a "One Day Special Liquor License" for the Annual Clamboil and Lobster event at the Mattapoisett YMCA in September.

The Selectmen met with Ian Ward about his request to release land on Acushnet Road for conservation purposes.

The next Selectmen's meeting will be September 13.
