Selectmen approve final member of fire engine review committee
Selectmen approved the final person in a committee created to review the purchase of a new fire engine.
Selectmen proposed the new committee after the Finance Committee opposed the purchase of a $500,000 fire truck for two Annual Town Meetings with voters following suit. Selectmen were in favor of buying the truck both times.
The new committee will weigh options regarding a new fire engine and will be composed of Selectman Steve Cushing, Finance Committee member Alan Minard, Fire Chief Tom Joyce and Deputy Chief Joseph Dayton.
On Tuesday, Selectmen approved Chris MacDougall as the "citizen-at-large" for the committee. MacDougall was one of four citizens who expressed interest in the committee, that also included a recently retired firefighter.
“I think that the position we have before us was to be a citizen at large not someone recently connected to the fire department,” said Select Chair Jon Henry.
He said MacDougall is an adjuster and marine surveyor.
“He’s technically a very savvy guy,” said Henry.
The board voted unanimously to appoint MacDougall to the committee.
