Selectmen designate Veterans Awareness Week

Mar 8, 2017

The Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall is coming to Wareham in August and Marion residents are invited. Bob White of the Wareham Veterans Council spoke with Marion Selectmen on Tuesday night to seek participation from the town.

“We’re trying to create as much publicity as we can,” said White.

The wall will be in Wareham Aug. 17-21. White said there will be special speakers at the site, the track near Wareham Town Hall, each day the wall is there, and they hope to have airplanes flyover the site.

“We want to dress it up in an environment that is as dignified as we can make it,” he said. “As far as we know it’s the only time it’s going to be in this area this year.”

At White’s suggestion, Selectmen voted to make the week of Aug. 17 Veterans Awareness Week in Marion.

White said more will be available in coming months.
