Selectmen discuss County Road with SPREDD
When it comes to transportation issues, the main concern for Selectmen is the pothole-riddled County Road.
On Monday night, they discussed the problem with representatives from the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District. The agency is seeking input from each of the 27 towns in the area as it updates its regional transportation plan. Representatives spoke with Mattapoisett Selectmen on Feb. 24.
Selectmen took the opportunity to reiterate previous requests to get County Road, part of Wareham, Marion and Rochester, designated as a state road.
“It’s a major feeder road, and it’s not designated as a major feeder road,” said Selectman Brad Morse.
SRPEDD Senior Transportation Planner Jackie Schmidt indicated that it could be difficult to change the road’s status.
“You have to declassify another road in your town,” she explained. “That’s why it tends to be a trick issue.”
Schmidt added, “I’m not saying it can’t be done.”
She suggested the town contact Transportation Planning Manager Paul Mission.
Schmidt said residents could also comment on the regional transportation plan’s revision by filling out a survey available online at www.srpedd.org. Pamphlets with more information are also available at Town Hall and Plumb Library.
