Selectmen OK sale of fire truck

Sep 21, 2016

After approving a request to declare the Fire Department’s 1999 pumper, formerly known as Engine 3, as surplus property, the Marion Selectmen approved Town Administrator Paul Dawson’s plan to get rid of it.

The normal procedure for surplus equipment is putting an ad in a newspaper so people can bid on it, but “a fire engine is a little more complicated,” Dawson said.

The town received two proposals from firms that broker fire engines. The proposals, received from Firetec and Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus, were pretty much identical in their terms and reputations, but ultimately Dawson suggested they go with Brindlee.

“We bought our current ladder truck from them,” he said. “They have an outstanding reputation in the business.”

The Selectmen will meet next with department heads for the quarterly meeting on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Music Hall.
