Seniors get to know firefighters at barbecue

May 28, 2019

MARION — The Marion Fire Department is always serving the community, but now it is taking its senior service to the next level by not only helping seniors in times of crisis, but also getting to know them at other times too.

On May 23 the Marion Fire Department brought and cooked a  BBQ lunch for Marion seniors at the Community Center. Program Coordinator for the Senior Center, Linda Jackvony said that  almost 50 people were there, and that everyone had a great time.

“Chief [Brian] Jackvony thought it was a good idea for our community and seniors to get to know all of our first responders, and what better way than with food?” Linda Jackvony said.

The firefighters plan to make the event a bit more regular and cook for seniors a few times a year.

“We appreciated them taking the time out of their day to cook, serve and have a conversation with everyone,” Linda Jackvony said.
