Sippican School pj drive helps keep kids warm

Dec 23, 2014

After Sippican School fourth grade students realized that some children aren’t lucky enough to curl up with a good book in warm pajamas, they decided to do something about it.

“They led the way to collect about 300 pairs of pj’s,” said Sippican School Principal Lyn Rivet about the Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive, which is offered through the Scholastic Reading Club.

For every pair of pajamas collected, Scholastic donated a book to a child in need.

Across the country, the drive has received more than 40,000 pajamas.

Sippican School results were announced at an all-school meeting held the Friday before winter vacation.

To get into the spirit of the drive, students and staff were invited to wear their pajamas to school.

The assembly also featured singing from the school chorus and the demonstration of a traditional English dance performed at Christmastime.
