Sippican School Safety Patrol gets OK for Williamsburg trip

This spring, the members of the Sippican School’s “Safety Patrol” will attempt to see all that Colonial Williamsburg has to offer.

On Wednesday, the Marion School Committee approved a field trip for the fifth and sixth grade members of the Safety Patrol to take place during April vacation.

Led by enrichment teacher Stacey Perry, the Safety Patrol helps with the arrival and dismissal of the younger students by assisting them on and off the bus as well as holding open doors.

Last year, the students traveled to Washington, D.C. There, they spent three days visiting monuments, museums and the White House.

When given the choice for their next trip, Perry said the students chose Williamsburg, Virginia over Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and New York City.

Perry said the group will travel by bus and will spend four days in Williamsburg.

The fees for the trip will be determined by how many students sign up for the trip. Perry said she expects to take 45 people, which includes students and chaperones.

Last year, Perry relied on Smithsonian Student Travel to organize activities and act as tour guides throughout the nation’s capital. Perry said she would be working with the group once again in planning the trip to Virginia.

“The company was phenomenal,” Perry said. “Everything worked like clockwork. The kids learned a lot and it was safe.”

School Committee Chair Brad Gordon agreed.

“I don’t think you could find a better company to run the trip,” Gordon said. “Williamsburg is a great place.”
