WITH SLIDESHOW: Residents sight Easter Bunny at Plumb Corner, Lion's Club Easter egg hunts
Eggs didn’t stand a chance Saturday, April 7 as kids and parents flocked to Rochester's Plumb Corner Mall and Mattapoisett Ned’s Point for two Easter-themed hunts.
The merchants of Rochester’s Plumb Corner Association hid hundreds of candy-filled plastic eggs in the acres surrounding the mall for the morning hunt.
Armed with Easter and even Halloween baskets, kids took to the grass in search of treasures.
The egg ambush took less than 15 minutes and although they were scooped up quickly, Morgan Hart said, “I did get stickers and a golf ball and it’s free.”
The Easter Bunny was on hand to meet children, and Plumb Corner stores had stations for cookie decorating, face painting and other activities.
“We wanted to make it a special place for the kids,” said Kate Lanagan MacGregor of Bold Moves.
The Easter Bunny made his way to Ned's Point later that afternoon where the Mattapoisett Lion’s Club kicked off their first Easter egg hunt in over 20 years.
“A few mommies in town said to me, ‘an egg hunt would be a great idea,’” said organizer Rob Haley. “At the Lion's Club we raise money to help people with diabetes and blindness, but we also like to find ways to give back to the community. It’s something little we can do.”
Kids raced around the lawn for chocolate eggs and golden eggs that came with a certificate for free Village Scoop ice cream.
With a basket full of chocolate and a golden egg, Jeannine Duchaine was pleased with her booty. “Look at how much chocolate I got!” she said.
