Slideshow: Something for everyone at Heritage Days

Mattapoisett's Heritage Days had a host of events this weekend that celebrated the town's community and history.

On Friday, August 3 a crowd gathered at Shipyard Park for burgers hot off the grill, classic cars and oldies streaming from the gazebo, courtesy of DJ Johnny Angel.

The events continued on Saturday morning with a small group of kids parading through the village with bikes, carriages and stuffed animals. With a special police escort, the kids started at Center School and made their way down to Shipyard Park where games, face painting and fire truck rides awaited.

Later that evening, over a hundred people gathered at the Town Wharf for a good ole fashioned (and huge) bonfire. It took a while to get started, but once the wood was ablaze, the crowd had to stand back!

Among the events on Sunday was another gathering at Shipyard Park, this time celebrating handicrafts and trades. From navigation tools with Ray Andrews to a station where participants could make a cranberry bog in a cup, the event highlighted professions of the past and present.
