Snow leaks into Center School clock

Feb 12, 2013

The newly repaired historic Center School clock got some snow to the face as flurries from the recent storm dripped into the shaft.

Facilities Director Gene Jones said snow came in through the vents on the clock tower, melted, and dripped into the clock mechanism inside of the building.

After discovering the leak, Jones said, “We built a canopy and tent around it. I don’t think anything was damaged, but we don’t know what’s up inside the tower.”

Jones said a significant amount of water dripped onto the wood floor and there was damage to some pictures on the wall.

“It don’t think it will be a major problem,” he said. “We’ll know more once we can get up there.”

Superintendent Doug White said Mattapoisett Town Administrator Mike Gagne has been contacted as well as Clock Keeper Ray Andrews.
