Cyclists on the South Coast are wanted to join the South Coast Bike Alliance team for the 2016 National Bike Challenge.

Last year, the South Coast Bike Alliance team rode 87,938 miles, placing 25th overall in the national competition of 1,945 teams and first place team in Massachusetts. Mattapoisett residents Marc Anderson and Lisa Winsor were the first place winners in the men and women categories.

The challenge begins May 1 and ends Labor Day.

There are prizes awarded each month for the national challenge, and there will be a South Coast Bikeway Alliance Awards Ceremony in September to celebrate the top mile-getters in the area.

To join the challenge, visit nationalbikechallenge.org. Select the South Coast team. Cyclists log their miles on the website and the data is compiled.
