South Coast Local diner hosts pajama party fundraiser

Mar 24, 2012

To raise money for the tornado victims in Indiana, Sherry Gibson, owner of the South Coast Local diner in Mattapoisett, came to work in her pajamas.

On March 24 and 25, Sherry and her husband, Wayne, invited their patrons to sport their best flannels, bathrobes and character pajamas, and to donate what they could to the tornado victims in Indiana.

"We're pretty excited about this one," Sherry said. "We're on board with anything that's going to help."

Besides cash donations, the Gibsons are collecting school supplies to send to school-age children affected by the storm three weeks ago. All in all, the Sherry and Wayne managed to raise $700 worth of school supplies.

The Gibsons have already made their own private donations to the cause.

Sherry said they have been collecting boxes of new school supplies, and spreading the word throughout the community to gather even more donations.

After, Sherry said she plans on sending all of the donations to Marion resident and pilot, Jan Aarscheim.

Aarsheim has been collecting donations from the local communities for the past few weeks that she plans to fly to Indiana herself. She will be loading up her Bonanza A36 airplane and flying west on March 30.

For the Sherry, teaming up with Aarsheim and holding the pajama-clad school supplies fundraiser is just "a little bit going a long way."

"We're grateful for everything and we tell people that any little bit helps," she said.
