St. Pierre to show work at Marion Art Center solo exhibition

Marc St. Pierre will exhibit his recent work in collage and paint in a solo show at the Marion Art Center from March 4 to April 16. An opening reception with the artist is planned for Friday, March 4 from 6 to 8 p.m.

St. Pierre is a professor of fine arts at UMass Dartmouth and maintains a studio in downtown New Bedford. He was initially trained as a painter and received his undergraduate degree from Laval University in Quebec City, Canada. He went on to study intaglio printmaking with Stanley William Hayter in Paris in the mid-70s.

St. Pierre earned his graduate degree in printmaking from the University of Illinois at Edwardsville. He taught at the Swain School of Design for nine years before joining the faculty of the UMass Dartmouth in 1988.

His work has been in several exhibitions, including "New England Impressions: The Art of Printmaking" at the Fitchburg Art Museum. Recently, he was included in the portfolio "East/West: A survey of American Printmaking," an exhibition that traveled across the United States. His work is included in the Canadian Art Bank, Le Babinet des Estames in Geneva, Switzerland and in numerous private collections.

The galleries at the Marion Art Center are open to the public Tuesday through Friday, 1 to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no admission charge.
