Student takes third in state poster contest
MATTAPOISETT – Artistic skill is blooming in Mattapoisett. Fifth-grader Paige Mailloux’s winning poster design for the Mattapoisett Tree Committee earned third place in the state Arbor Day Poster Contest.
Select Board member Jodi Bauer calls this a “large accomplishment overall.”
This year’s theme was Be A Cool Community, Plant Trees!
Mailloux’s award-winning design was created using watercolor pencils.
Her interest in art follows a family tradition, she told Sippican Week after winning first place in the local competition in March. She has fond memories of visiting the New Hampshire home of her grandmother, who is an artist, and spending time painting with her.
Mailloux received a certificate from the Select Board acknowledging her accomplishment.
