Swordfish and Scallop Festival to light up Holiday in the Park
Mattapoisett’s Holiday in the Park Committee is hoping to get a boost in its fundraising efforts with a Swordfish and Scallop Festival.
The committee recently began putting out feelers in the community to seek funds for new lights and decorations as well as Christmas tree donations.
The committee receives $500 a year in funds from the town for the event and relies heavily on volunteers, from Santa and Mrs. Clause to the Fire Department, said committee chair Melody Pecheco at a previous meeting. Pacheco would like to raise at least $2,000 for the popular December event.
The seafood-themed festival, planned for October 14, could go a long way toward that goal.
Town Administrator Mike Gagne said he and the committee have already been in talks with an individual in the seafood business for the event. Tents and linens have also been donated, he said.
“The weather will be a little cooler. It’s going to work out well,” said Gagne.
Gagne said more details about the event would be forthcoming.
