Tabor proposes new dorm
Tabor Academy wants to build a new dormitory, but first the school needs an OK to connect it to the town's sewer system.
On Tuesday, architect Will Saltonstall detailed the plan to selectmen, who are also the water and sewer commissioners.
The new dorm is proposed for the field across from the Fire Department on Spring Street and would house 24 students.
“The point is not to expand the population of the school,” said Saltonstall. “In building this dorm, we’re creating better living environments for students on campus.”
He said students would be moved from another dorm.
“We’re not increasing the number of flushers or showerers,” Saltonstall said.
The school is already using less sewer capacity than it did in 2001, 28.1 percent, said the architect.
“We don’t think that this new dorm will have a meaningful difference in Tabor’s overall sewer impact on the town,” he explained.
Selectmen Chair Jody Dickerson said he didn’t have enough time to review the proposal, so the board postponed its decision until April 18.
