Teachers take to the court in fundraiser basketball game

Mar 28, 2023

MATTAPOISETT — Students aren’t the only ones who can ball at Old Rochester Regional High School.

High School faculty and staff held their own against a team of students in a basketball game on  Wednesday, March 22 that raised funds for the Old Rochester Regional High School Class of 2025.

The game was lighthearted but still competitive.

The student team kept pressure on the teachers throughout the game, winning with a score of 63-39.

But the teachers did have one win during the game. Old Rochester boys basketball coach Steve Carvalho sunk a half-court shot on his first try during a half-time competition.

More important than the score, or other athletic feats, was the money raised in support of the students.

According to Class of 2025 President Emerson Gonet, the event raised around $540 to fund the class’ junior and senior prom.

“I think this was very successful,” said Gonet. “It was a fun event as well.”

Gonet hopes to hold a similar fundraiser next year, and has several other fundraising opportunities planned throughout this school year.
