MARION — On Thursday afternoon, Mattapoisett Animal Control Officer Kathy Massey was called to the area of Old Rochester Regional High School by a driver who reported a giant lizard crossing the road.
By the time Massey arrived, the lizard, which turned out to be a Tegu dragon, had crossed into Marion.
Tegus are a type of South American lizard that can grow up to four feet long. They are legal to own in the state of Massachusetts. They are described as intelligent and tame.
Massey took the lizard to the Mattapoisett Animal Hospital and then to Acushnet.
