Thursday, April 4

Make some art.

The Elizabeth Taber Library at 8 Spring Street is kicking off its Art Month in April by offering patrons the chance to make custom buttons using its button machine. Stop in before April 6 while the library is open to make your own and add it to a button wall.

See some art.

The Marion Council on Aging will change over to its April exhibit, which celebrates the work of four friends, Jane Egan, Helen Johnson, Betty Beaulieu and Jennifer Cipriano, with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Benjamin D. Cushing Community Center, 465 Mill Street.

Friday, April 5

Celebrate the Senior Center.

The Rochester Senior Center will host a celebration at 1:30 to celebrate being one of the few senior centers to consistently earn accreditation. Call the Senior Center at 508-763-8723 to RVSP for refreshment purposes. The event will be at 67 Dexter Lane. 

Enjoy a night away from kids. 

The Mattapoisett PTA will host a fundraiser at 7 p.m. at the Inn on Shipyard Park (13 Water Street), with multiple item and cash raffles, and a silent auction. The $20 tickets will be available at the door, and include appetizers.

Saturday, April 6

Get ready for a boat race.

From 1 to 3 p.m the Rochester Fire Department (4 Pine Street) will be transformed to help racers prepare for the Memorial Day Boat Race.  Boats will be on display, plans, race rules and registration forms will be available and boat builders will be on hand to answer questions. People can buy, sell or swap a boat at the event. There will also be a raffle. Contact 508-763-2024 with questions.

Get lucky at Foxwoods.

The Rochester County Fair planning committee will host a fundraising trip to Foxwoods. The bus departs from Rochester Memorial School (16 Pine Street) at 4 p.m. and will return at 12:45 a.m. Tickets are $35 a person, and include a food and slot voucher.

Eat out.

The Knights of Columbus will host a family-style ham and bean supper at their hall (57 Fairhaven Road, Mattapoisett) starting at 5:30. Tickets for the supper are $10 for those under 13 and $5 for children age 7 to 12.

Sunday, April 7

Enjoy some saxophone.

Local saxophonist Marcus Monteiro will be kicking off the Marion Concert Series with a group of multitalented jazz musicians. His concert will take place in the Marion Music Hall (164 Front Street) at 2 p.m.

Enjoy piano and history.

Pianist Leslie Amper will present a concert of works supported by the WPA, backed up by a visual presentation on the history of the era. Her concert will take place in Hoyt Hall at Tabor Academy, also at 2 p.m.

Monday, April 8

From 3 to 4 p.m. catch the Elizabeth Taber Library’s event for patrons to learn about street art. Participants will also design stencils with the library’s 3D printer to make customized graffiti art.
