Thursday, March 7

Think spring.

Winter weather has descended this past week, but the Marion Senior Center invites residents to “Think Spring” as it celebrates the opening reception of a series of spring-related works. The reception will start at 5 p.m. and last till 7 p.m. with the chance to chat, enjoy light food and drinks and appreciate art.

Friday, March 8

Learn about Elizabeth Taber.

The Sippican Woman’s Club will host their March meeting at the Taber Academy Head of School’s house to have lunch, drink tea and hear Taber archivist Sophie Arnfeld and Marion historian Wendy Bidstrup present about Elizabeth Taber and her enduring impacts. Some of Taber’s papers will also be on display. Lunch will begin at 12:15.

Enjoy a meal and music.

The Mattapoisett Congregational Church will host its Open Table on March 8, offering a meal and music on the first Friday in Lent. There is no charge for the meal, but the church accepts donations. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and dinner is served at 5 p.m.

See a classic film.

Arrive at the Marion Music Hall to at 7 p.m. to see “How Green Was My Valley.” Arrive a little earlier to hear music by a vocalist, backed by a clarinetist and pianist before the movie. 

Saturday, March 9

Pick up groceries at ORR.

Skip the trip to the grocery store and pick up some grocery goods at Old Rochester Junior High School. The Old Rochester’s Winter Farmers’ Market will offer various goods, music and kids’ activities from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sunday, March 10

Hear an author speak.

Author Susan Quinn will present "Eleanor and Hick: the Love Affair that Shaped a First Lady," which was voted one of the Best Books of 2016 by NPR and Harper's Bazaar. Quinn will also talk about her book focused on the Federal Theatre Project at the Mattapoisett Library starting at 2 p.m.

Hear a bishop and his wife speak.

The Community Baptist Church will host Bishop Orlando Harris and Lady Dr. Treniece L. Harris at 3 p.m. Bishop Harris and his wife will speak about "a Church designed with you in mind."
