Go to a cookie swap.

The Elizabeth Taber Library will  host a Holiday Cookie Swap from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Participants should bring about two dozen cookies and a recipe, and will be able to create a bag of holiday treats.  Sign up at the library.

Saturday, Dec. 21

Watch “movie madness.”

Rochester Boy Scout Troop 31 is hosting a special viewing of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” on Saturday, Dec. 21, at Flagship Cinemas in Wareham. The movie will begin at 9:30 a.m., but participants should arrive at 8:45 a.m. Admission is $15, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the troop.

Pre-purchasing tickets is encouraged. Email troop31rochester@gmail.com if interested in attending.

The Troop will also be collecting non-perishable food donations during the event, to be donated to Shepherd’s Pantry in Acushnet.

Costumes are encouraged, but masks will not be allowed.

See a holiday farmer’s market.

The Old Rochester Winter Farmers Market and Craft Fair hold a special holiday market at the Old Rochester Regional Junior High School gymnasium from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event will feature gingerbread house making, crafters, entertainment, and a visit from Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman.

Apple Cider, hot chocolate, and fresh donuts will be served as refreshments.

Receive guidance.

St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church and the First Congregational Church of Marion will offer a special time of worship for those grieving or facing difficult times this holiday season.

The service will be held at Saint Gabriel’s at 3 p.m. Sometimes called “Blue Christmas” or “Longest Night,” it is often held close to Christmas when the winter solstice makes the days shorter and darker than any other time in the year.

People who may not be having a very merry Christmas and friends who support them are invited to come and sit with one another in a liturgy that speaks of the love of God for those struggling during this season.

St. Gabriel’s is located at 124 Front Street. For more information, call 508-748-1507.

Sing at a chapel.

The Tinkhamtown Chapel on Acushnet Road in Mattapoisett will hold its annual Christmas Carol Sing  at 5 p.m.

Join others in singing the old favorites in a 19th century chapel, lit by kerosene lamps. Children are encouraged to volunteer to perform a song or recitation, either as a solo or with members of the family, and to join in the children's chorus.
