Three new covid cases reported in school district

Dec 12, 2020

MATTAPOISETT — Two new covid-19 cases were reported at Old Hammondtown School and one new case was reported at the Old Rochester Regional Junior High School on Dec. 11, according to the Old Rochester Regional School District.

In a press release, the district said the two individuals from Old Hammondtown have not been in school since Nov. 24, and the one positive case from the junior high hasn’t been in school since Dec. 8. All are self-isolating at home.

Officials did not disclose whether those who tested positive are students, faculty or staff members.

Contact tracing is in progress and any close contacts, or those within six feet of a positive individual for more than 15 minutes in a 24 hour period, will be notified and followed by the Mattapoisett Board of Health.

All schools were open as normal on Dec. 12 at the Board of Health’s recommendation. There have now been 48 cases in the district since schools opened on Sept. 16. All buildings are cleaned every day after school and as needed.

If parents or children are experiencing symptoms of the virus, officials recommend to have children stay home and get tested. Testing can be done either through a primary healthcare provider or at one of the state’s free testing sites.
