Toast of the Coast raises funds for Gleason Family YMCA

Oct 18, 2015

Gleason Family YMCA supporters raised funds (and some glasses) during the annual Toast of the Coast Food & Wine Tasting event.

Held on Oct. 16, the fundraiser attracted approximately 80 people to the Marion Music Hall for food, drinks and both silent and live auctions.

“There’s been a tremendous outpouring of support from sponsors this year,” said YMCA Executive Director Debbie Fringuelli. “Many more businesses have stepped up to support their time and goods. We are very grateful.”

Last year, the event raised about $5,000 for the Gleason Family YMCA’s annual campaign. The money goes directly to help children and families participate through memberships, camps and other programs.

This year, Fringuelli estimated the event would raise between $8,000 to $10,000.

In addition to the auction items, participants bid on three “Fund A Need” scholarships.

For $500, attendees could pay for a cancer survivor to attend a 12-week session at the YMCA’s Livestrong program. By paying $250, a child could attend a week at Camp Nep-In-Nae, and $100 purchased equipment, supplies and clothing for five children in need.

Before the auction attendees sampled donated food and wine from area businesses.

Snug Harbor Seafood, of Duxbury, provided oysters grown by Onset-based Indian Cove Aquaculture.

Mike Besse, co-founder of Indian Cove, said he was glad to help support the YMCA’s mission on Friday.

Middleborough artist Robyn Iarrobino, of Blue Anchor Studio, gave a painting she did of Marion’s Bird Island for auction. She also donated her time and performed a live painting demonstration during the event.
