Toe Jam Puppet Band gets kids moving
Plumb Library hosted the Toe Jam Puppet Band on Tuesday morning. The event was sponsored by the Rochester Lions Club.
The Toe Jam Puppet Band features Tom Poitras and Marion local Vinny Lovegrove. Poitras took the lead on the music, strumming guitar and singing folksy versions of well-known children’s songs. Lovegrove interacted with the children by blowing bubbles, leading dances and making them laugh with silly sound effects.
The statewide theme for libraries this summer is fitness and wellness, both physical and mental, according to Plumb Library Director Gail Roberts. And while the Toe Jam Puppet Band isn’t new to Plumb Library, this routine is.
“This is their workout program,” Roberts said. “We haven’t seen this yet.”
The band, like many other children’s acts, tailors its performance to fit the library’s theme. This specific performance had kids up and dancing, running to pop bubbles and marching through the crowd as part of a “Little Red Caboose.”
Children can register for the library’s summer program online until July 4.
