Town, community groups sponsor fundraiser for employee
The Mattapoisett Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and town are getting together to raise money for Highway Department employee Rob Daener.
Daener has multiple sclerosis, and the fundraiser on April 8 will pay for a wheelchair that allows him to stand up.
"He does a great job for our town, and we're trying to give back to him," said Melody Pacheco, the Town Administrator's assistant. She added that health insurance won't pay for the chair.
The fundraising event, to be held at the Knights of Columbus, begins at 5:30 p.m. and will include dinner, a cash bar and performances by local musicians. The tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for kids ages 12 and younger. Tickets are available at the Town Hall and are going fast.
Selectman Paul Silva said this is a worthy cause, and people can give even if tickets sell out.
"If you can't make it, donate anyway."
