Tri-town prepares for Fourth of July

With fireworks, a parade and a long running road race all scheduled for the Fourth of July, tri-town residents will have no shortage of activities to choose from. Read on to see what’s happening when.

Mattapoisett Road Race

The 45th annual Mattapoisett Road Race is set for Saturday, July 4. The five-mile run starts at 9 a.m. at the waterfront at Shipyard Park. The course winds through town and around Ned’s Point Lighthouse. All proceeds are awarded to graduating seniors from Old Rochester Regional High School. Marion parade

Marion’s annual Fourth of July parade starts Saturday, July 4 at 9 a.m.

Parade participants will meet at 8 a.m. in the baseball field behind the Town House and adjacent to Sippican School. Trophies will be awarded for first and second place in each category listed on the parade application form. Ribbons will be awarded to the third and fourth place finishers in each category.

A cash award for best in parade will be awarded in addition to the trophy.

Fireworks at Silvershell Beach

Fireworks have returned to Silvershell Beach this year. At dusk, the fireworks will be launched from a barge anchored in Sippican Harbor while the Marion Concert Band performs.

Horse Show

The annual Marion Horse Show returns for its 68th year. The show will be held in Washburn Park and feature several classes for competitors. For more than 60 years, the show has been a Fourth of July tradition for farms and local families.

All are welcome to attend and watch the competitors.

The show begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.
