Tri-town first responders will jointly participate in a National Night Out event to strengthen the relationship between their departments and the public on Aug. 6.

Police, fire departments and the harbormasters’ departments in Marion will be at Old Rochester Regional High School from 5 to 8 p.m. for the free, family-friendly event. Each department will bring a variety of vehicles for the public to see and tour.

Representatives from the Marion Board of Health and Marion Recreation Department will also be in attendance and will have products to give away. The recreation department will also have games set up for kids at the event.

"This is a great opportunity for the community and our first responders to get to know each other and ask any questions they have about the various local departments and the work we do," Chief John Garcia of Marion said. "Our hope is that positive interactions between community members and first responders at events like this help to make the community stronger, and we encourage residents from all three communities to attend."

Food and beverages will be provided while supplies last. Last year, about 200 people attended the event.

Additional event details can be found on the Marion Police Facebook event page.
