Tri-Town sees decline in new covid cases

Jan 21, 2021

Marion, Mattapoisett and Rochester all recorded fewer new covid cases this week, amid a surge in the Tri-town following the Christmas and New Years holidays.

Marion reported 42 new cases this week, down from 46 reported in state data on Jan. 14.

Sippican Healthcare Center in Marion recorded three new deaths in the state’s Jan. 21 covid data, bringing the total at the long-term healthcare facility to 24.

Mattapoisett continued a downtrend that began last week, reporting 25 new cases this week. The town recorded 41 new cases in Jan. 7 data and 36 new cases in Jan. 14 data.

In a 17-case drop from Jan. 14 data, Rochester recorded 34 cases in this week’s data.

This is the first week since before the Christmas and New Years holidays that all three towns have seen a downtrend in new cases.

After the total number of cases in the Old Rochester Regional School District doubled following the holidays — from 68 cases before Christmas to 139 two weeks after New Years — the district has reported no new cases since Jan. 15.

State covid data is released every Thursday, and can be found here.
