Tri-town students collect clothing for local charity
Last weekend, three students from Old Rochester Junior High School collected thousands of articles of clothing for the less fortunate.
Carly Drew of Rochester, Maeve Geraghty of Mattapoisett and Sean Lally of Marion were nominated to be the tri-town ambassadors for Project 351, a state-wide nonprofit that has eighth graders from every municipality in the Commonwealth leading the charge of community service.
The three students worked together to collect clothing in school and on Saturday. During the drive at school, the ambassadors took in 1,366 articles of clothing. Halfway through their fundraiser on Saturday they were well over 2,000.
“We’ve gotten sixty-three bags of clothing just today,” Lally said.
The clothing will be donated to Gifts to Give in Acushnet because the students wanted to help a local organization.
“I think it’s amazing that three people can make such a difference in the lives of the less fortunate,” Geraghty said.
