Two contested races in Rochester's election

Mar 2, 2014

Rochester voters won’t have much of a choice in the upcoming April election. Out of 14 races, only two are contested.

“The only races where there will be some competition is the Board of Health and School Committee,” said Town Clerk Naida Parker.

The last day to submit papers was Thursday, Feb. 27.

There are two School Committee spots available with four people vying for the seats. Incumbent Tim Scholz is in the running. Elected as a write-in candidate, Scholz has been on the board for six years.

Meagan Bennett, Cheryl Hebert and Jennifer Kulak are also running. Bennett is a member of the Rochester Memorial School Parent Teacher Organization. Hebert is a teacher at the New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School. Kulak currently serves as a library trustee in town.

In January, School Committee Chair Michelle Cusolito announced she would not seek reelection.

For the Board of Health, two people are running for one seat. Current Chair Sandra Keese is facing competition from William Souza.

Rochester's election takes place April 9.
