Two sisters win $10,000 raffle at Simply White event
It was a lucky day for Tracy Phipps of Marion and her sister, Cindy Gibbs when they won a $10,000 raffle at a "Simply White" event hosted by the Cape Cod Canal Chamber of Commerce.
Though many vied for a chance at the grand prize, the sisters were greeted with a roar of applause when they were announced as winners.
"I think we're going to put it away for travel, that's what I'm going to do," said Phipps, owner of a vending business.
The Simply White raffle event was one of the biggest fundraisers for the chamber, said Chamber president Marie Oliva. She said 220 tickets were sold at $100 a piece, and guests were allowed to bring another person with them. At the Bay Pointe Club, more than 200 people made business connections and enjoyed food and drinks, and music by Lee Surrette.
"It's the first one we've ever done. We found it all in all to be a very successful event," said Oliva. "I think a lot of people really had a lot of fun and enjoyed themselves."
Cotuit resident Juanita Guess said that although she came to the event as a business person for a health and wellness company, she didn't make as many business connections as she'd hoped to because she ended up enjoying herself at the event more.
The event was modeled after the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce: simple white attire and large raffle prizes.
With white balloons and soft lights inside Bay Pointe, along with gold accents, the setting fit its purpose. Oliva thanked Bay Pointe for the venue and for donating the food.
Other raffle winners included: Don King and Diana Scolponeti for $500 each, and Bob Cronin for $1,000.
